RE: Use of "the" on Lists of United States political families
editHello! I noticed recently that there is some inconsistency on the alphabetical lists of political families in the United States: some lists include the entries with "the" (e.g., The Cabots) and some do not (e.g., Landrieus). Beyond being an inconsistency, it has the tendency to break some redirect links, which is unhelpful for navigating. I'd like to work on standardizing the lists and fixing the broken redirects, but I wanted to initiate a discussion to identify the preferred formatting before starting those changes. I appreciate any thoughts here! PA Uploader (talk) 15:04, 16 August 2026 (UTC)
- We can go by WP:DEFINITE on this, along with MOS:HEADINGS. The latter says to follow the guidance for article titles, which says to only use definite or indefinite article if it is part of the official name. (as in, keep with a article about a television show called "The Kennedy Family" but remove in an article section on the "Kennedy family".) So, your instinct is correct that these uses of "the" should be removed. Rublamb (talk) 04:56, 22 September 2026 (UTC)

editGreeting! I have created a draft page, named List of armed factions during the Myanmar Civil War. I have more info on what you can help me with on the draft's talk page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft_talk:List_of_armed_factions_during_the_Myanmar_Civil_War
It is quite a long list, and involves a lot of search, mainly for sources, names, symbols and flags on third-party armed groups. Any help is going to be credited, thank you! 🧶Demeseriecroitor🧶 11:11, 3 September 2026 (UTC)

You may have better luck at WP:Military history, where editors may have more expersie in the subject matter. Rublamb (talk) 04:44, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, that is what I have done a long time ago, and I have not received a response. I might try again. 🧶Demeseriecroitor🧶 13:12, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
Scope of this project
editThe main page for this project describes its scope as follows: "The project covers most articles that are (or contain) lists. The lists that are intended as navigation aids are covered by WikiProject Outlines and WikiProject Indexes." I can't find much discussion about this statement of scope in the talk archives of this project. It certainly seems appropriate that articles which are themselves lists, often titled "List of..." fall within the scope of this project, e.g. List of United States cities by population. But what about articles that are fundamentally prose articles, but contain one or more lists, e.g. Battle of Gettysburg or 1901 Michigan Wolverines football team? Is the Battle of Gettysburg article within the scope of this project? Are tables considered lists? Tables and lists are clearly both data sets, but Table (format) and List don't refer to one another except in case of table of contents. Thanks, Jweiss11 (talk) 03:03, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for asking. The WikiProject covers both embedded and stand-alone lists. MOS:LIST includes tables as a type of list. Note that unlike most WikiProjects, this one is defined by data format, rather than the article's subject. WP monitoring can help with technical issues (for example, lists that do not work with accessibility readers) as well as the usual concerns of notability, MOS, and AfD.
- As the scope summary suggests, not every list makes the cut. Stand-alone list articles are covered, except for indexes and other navigation pages. An article such as Battle of Gettysburg, which has only a nominal use of lists or has prose masquerading as a bullet list, would not be a good candidate. However, articles such as Richard Sharp Smith, Honor society, or even Michigan Wolverines football might be because of either a high number of lists or a high percentage of the article's key content being in list format.
- Caldecott Medal and Registrar of the University of Oxford are examples of Feature List articles that have a lot of prose, but are still considered to be a list article because of the importance and/or size of their lists. I suggest taking a look at the articles listed through Wikipedia:WikiProject Lists#Assessment to get a better idea of the range. Rublamb (talk) 04:42, 22 September 2026 (UTC)

List of computer simulation software addition

List of Singapore's football leagues winners
editList of Singapore's football leagues winners seems ungrammatical to me, or at least unwieldy. Contrast this with List of English football champions.
I'm minded to rename the article as List of Singapore football champions, but I'm in no rush to do so. Rainjar (talk) 16:30, 6 October 2026 (UTC)
